UX Research: Peloton Usability Study

As a team of four graduate student UX researchers, we conducted a comprehensive usability study on Peloton's mobile app, focusing on its social and community features. Across 18 moderated usability test sessions, we evaluated three core user journeys:
-
Creating a team
-
Editing a team
-
Creating a challenge
We uncovered key pain points that impacted discoverability and navigation. Our findings surfaced actionable insights that informed both interaction and visual design recommendations, supported by mockups illustrating proposed improvements for each journey.
The study concluded with a formal presentation to Peloton's product design team, including a Senior User Researcher, two Senior Product Designers, and the Lead Product Manager. This gave us the opportunity to see the impact of our research and hear directly from the designers about their decisions behind certain designs of the app.
In an industry where community and social interaction is central to user retention, the strength of Peloton's social features directly influences brand loyalty and its ability to stay competitive against rival fitness apps.
